Physiotherapists with additional training in Temporomandibular disorders assess the external and internal structures of your jaw. Your therapist will assess whether it is the muscle, joint or discs causing your discomfort.


Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can often lead to:

  • Pain in the jaw, neck, or shoulders
  • Limited movement or locking of the jaw
  • Clicking, popping or grinding in the jaw with mouth opening/closing
  • Difficulty eating or chewing
  • Headaches
  • Ear aches, tinnitus, or dizziness
  • Bite problems
 

What to expect at your Physiotherapy assessment:

  • Detailed dental & medical history
  • Postural and functional movement assessment
  • Assessment of your cervical spine & jaw muscles, joints, and ligaments
  • External and internal assessment of the jaw

TMJ Treatment may include:

  • Personalized treatment program
  • Manual therapy to promote relaxation and release of tight muscles and ligaments
  • Education
  • Acupuncture or Dry Needling
  • TMJ self release, strength and coordination exercises
  • Communication with your dentist
